PODCAST RECOMMENDATIONS
The Journal: The Epic Mess at TGI Fridays
The Big Idea: Casual sit down chain restaurants are having a very bad, no good time over the last decade, and this peek into the mess at TGI Fridays gives a great idea of what’s going on. Hint: they have sushi on the menu.
History Extra Podcast: Ancient Egypt | 1. civilisation
The Big Idea: Ancient Egypt spans a long period of time. We are closer to the time of Cleopatra than Cleopatra was to the building of the pyramids. This episode gives a great sense of what we know and don’t know about this incredible early civilization.
This show has a pretty amazing list of topics and it’s very worth looking through their feed even if this episode title doesn’t speak to you.
Thanks to Mel from A Strong Sense of Place (for book lovers) for sending this my way. Check out their excellent newsletter as well.
Stuff You Should Know: Short Stuff – The Guinness Widget
The Big Idea: You know that little ball that bounces around a can of Guinness? It’s literally called a “widget.” Learning the history and purpose of it is worth this quick listen.
The Severance Podcast with Ben Stiller & Adam Scott: S2 EP 1 – Hello, Ms Cobel (with Tramell Tillman)
The Big Idea: Essential listening for Severance fans and this first episode has an excellent interview with the actor who plays Mr Milchick.
Not sure how I missed this for season 1. I do love me a good official podcast with the creators when it comes to prestige TV.
Remember to enjoy all podcasts equally.

P.S. Books this year: Finished Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and I liked it mainly for its story of creative collaboration and friendship (although I didn’t find the main characters particularly likeable on their own).
Started on Project Hail Mary and it’s extremely readable and looking forward to seeing where it goes.
